Description:
At the end of the upgrade from 5.5.13 to 5.5.14 the Instance Config Wizard is supposed to start automatically, but it does not.

In case it matters, I have installed all MySQL software onto my F: drive, not my C: drive.

How to repeat:
Start with an installation earlier than 5.5.14, on a drive other than the C: drive, then upgrade to 5.5.14. At the end of the upgrade it says that the Instance Config Wizard will start automatically, but it does not.

Verified just as described on 32-bit Windows XP, even when default location on C: is used.

Personally I don't run the config wizard at all when upgrading. I just skip it (uncheck the the option 'configure now'). I do not see any reason to configure an instance that has already been configured.

Verified also with the upgrade 5.5.12 --> 5.5.14, on Windows 7 64-bit.

Even if the checkbox "Launch the MySQL Instance Configuration Wizard" is checked, the Wizard does not start.

The workaround is to double click the file "MySQLInstanceConfig.exe" that you can find under the "bin" directory of your server (typically "C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\bin").

This bug still exists in version 5.5.16

The workaround does not work - instead of upgrading the existing instance it tries to create a new one, then complains that the port is already in use and wants to create a service with a different name on a different port.

Hi,

I have re-verified this bug while doing an upgrade 5.5.27 --> 5.528 (32-bit packages on Windows7 64 bit): even if the checkbox "Launch the MySQL Instance Configuration Wizard" is checked, the Instance Configuration Wizard does not start.

Now, a couple of points:

1. As Peter says, generally speaking if this is an upgrade there should be no real need to reconfigure the instance, so the fact that the Instance Configuration Wizard does not start can be somehow "ignored"

2. As a workaround, the Instance Configuration Wizard can be manually started double clicking on the file "MySQLInstanceConfig.exe" that you can find under the "bin" directory of your server. The fact that - as you were writing - instead of upgrading the existing instance it tries to create a new one etc is probably another bug and it is not related to this one (this bug is about the fact that the Instance Config Wizard does not start automatically after upgrading, when it should).

3. finally, and probably most important point, there is a new product that replaces the Instance Config Wizard: the MySQL Installer.

I would set the status of this bug to 'Won't Fix' and recommend to use the new Installer instead.

Please reopen if you have any further questions.

Thank you
