Description:
I want to use Access 2010 x64 on Windows Professional N 64 as Front-End for my MySQL Server and already installed MyODBC-3.5.1

When I am starting on Access 2010 a new database, want to add a ODBC-DB, i first have to make a new Datasource. Until here everything works fine, after creating new dsn-files and chose the MyODBC driver i am getting the ODBC/Connector Window.

Here I tried different Hostnames (ip, Hostname under Windows, localhost, Hostname of the Server...) in no way Windows seems to find the server.
When I write down the data into the connector windows and click ok I am getting the message "ODBC Request denied", when I want to select a db in the connector window i am getting "Loading database list is not implemented for SQLDriverConnect()

How to repeat:
1. Start Access with a New Database
2. Go to extern Data and add a ODBC-Database
3. Make a new DSN file
4. Chose the MyODBC driver
5. save again
6. Give in the data into the connector windows
7. "ok"
8. Read the error message "ODBC request denied"

Have you checked option in metadata tab: Return Tables Names For SQLDescribeCol?.

What exact version of Connector/ODBC, 3.51.xx, do you use? Can you try newer one, 5.1.8?

Good seems a bit better, but still giving error:

"Connection failed:[HY000][MySQL][ODBC 5.1 Driver] Can't connect to MySQL Server on '192.168.178.3' (10061)

Bodo,

Did you try connecting to MySQL Server from mysql command line using the same username and password?
It is also important to try doing it from the same machine where Access 2010 is installed. MySQL authenticates first by hostname and only then by username.

For instance if you have 'user1'@'host1' it does not mean 'user1' will be able to connect from another machine named 'host2'.
