Please, check if the same problem happens with a newer version of Workbench, 5.2.34.

Tested with 5.2.34 - no problem reported. Got through "Testing DB Connection" with: Connecting to MySQL server Local Cluster on 5000... Connected. MySQL server version is 5.1.51-ndb-7.1.9a-cluster-gpl MySQL server architecture is ia32 MySQL server OS is Win32 On next step "Windows Management" getting "No MySQL Service found". If provide "Path to Configuration file" getting "Cannot Advance" warning with message "In order to manage a MySQL server it must be installed as a service. The wizard could not find any MySQL service on the target machine, hence the server instance cannot be created." Found same description in http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=60506, going to check if it's my case as well. Please consider fixed by 5.2.34 CE.

This specific problem is not repeatable with 5.2.34 any more.
