Description:
While the VS Plugin will not work since VS Express does not allow for 3rd party add-ons, could we test this way to connect to a MySQL server:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms243192.aspx

If that works with the Connector/Net then we could document it.

How to repeat:
Use the method described in http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms243192.aspx to add a data source of different type.

Suggested fix:
Test the method above and if it works, document it.

Thank you for the bug report.

Sadly, as stated in the Prerequisites section of that page, that procedure only applies to Visual Studio Premium or Ultimate, so it would not be an option for Express.

VS Express 2012 does permit 3rd party plugins. I have a number of 3rd party plug-ins installed including some from xPort Software that provide Excel file handling among other things. They integrate very well into VS providing new classes, methods etc.

So, given that VS Express 2012 does support 3rd party plugins, can the installer for MySQL please be modified to work with it?

Thanks,
Rob
