Description:
- The script uses log-err, not error-log
- The script uses safe_mysqld, not mysqld_safe

How to repeat:
Read mysql5.5:support-files/mysql-log-rotate.sh

Suggested fix:
Update script.

Thank you for the problem report. Verified by code review with current mysql-5.5 from bzr. It still refers to [safe_mysqld] in comments...

Noted in 5.6.3 changelog.

The mysql-log-rotate script was updated because it referred to
deprecated MySQL options.
