MySQL Workbench was installed through Ubuntu Synaptic Manager. Installed version: 5.2.33-1ubu1004 Miguel Solorzano, is there anyway that you can try it on a Ubuntu machine? All other machines I have are running Windows. I do have VirtualBox Ubuntu in one of my Windows machines, which is running 10.04 as well. I can give it a try to see if it will repeat in Ubuntu VirtualBox.

As promised, I freshly installed Workbench 5.2.33 to my Ubuntu 10.04 VirtualBox with Windows XP SP3 host. Could not repeat the "missing grid" problem on Ubuntu 10.04 VM! So it is a bug related to the computer running Ubuntu 10.04 itself. After more testing, it appeared to be the grid does exit but invisible. Switched 3 monitors to see if it is the monitor setting. No, still no grid. So it narrowed down to be a Ubuntu 10.04 bug related to the video card/ display. After much search in Ubuntu bugs, the BUG is located. BUG #548709 - Ubuntu Lucid Lynx radeon driver has a bug, which causes gamma/contrast/brightness settings to be messed up. In my case, the grid becomes invisible! For anyone who is still with me and happened to have the same problem, here is the link to the bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/linux/+bug/548709 My Solution: It is simple. Since the bug affects VGA analog display, so I just asked for a DVI from our hardware guy. And ... PROBLEM FIXED! :)
