Description:
I had just installed the web host's SQL server instance without any issues.

When registering a new localhost server instance the process was successful upto and including the "testing the database connection" screen.

When clicking next an unexpected error occurs. The following message is displayed: "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt."

I have restarted my machine and attempted this process again with identical results.

How to repeat:

Do you have a Windows service created for your MySQL server on localhost?

I'm using XAMPP and wasn't running the mySQL server as a service.
