Description:
User accounts cannot be managed because the program is not looking in the correct place for the MySQL Datafiles. I had to change the datadir value under Configuration. the value was updated correctly in the ini file. Other operations find the data. Under Variables, System Variables, Server it shows datadir with the incorrect value (default installation value), not the value configured. It appears that the Accounts management uses the incorrect value because when creating a new acccount, the error appears "Unhandled exception: Error adding account newuser@%:" no matter what user name or host string is used. It may be some other problem but I cannot add any accounts. Only root exists. I just installed this workbench version after installing MySQL Community Server version 5.5.8 on Windows 7 x64.

How to repeat:
Try to add a new account.

The problem with user account failure is not in the administration program. I tried using mysql gui 5.0 r17 and it also failed to add an account. Then I uninstalled mysql 5.5.8 and installed mysql 5.1.54 and all the admin features worked for user accounts. I had made no changes to either the workbench or the older gui programs. the problem is with mysql 5.5.8.

the installation of 5.5.8 was a clean installation (several times). all file remnants were removed after doing Uninstall with the standard windows program removal. no data files were left behind. the test of a new account was done without adding any databases, only what came with the mysql installation.

There may still be a problem in the workbench program regarding the datadir variable, but it has nothing to do with the user account problem.
