Description:
When I try to install MySQL (using mysql-5.5.8-win32.msi), I get to the very last part where it says start service and just gets stuck. I've had this problem for two days now and I've read other online tutorials with no luck. I added an exception to port 3306 in the Windows Firewall, yet it still doesn't work.

This is how far I get in the installation before it freezes:

Also, clicking anywhere in the window causes a no response error.

How to repeat:
Try to install MySQL 5.5.8 on Microsoft Windows Home Edition (32 bit).

Had you enabled check boxes for anonymous login or remote login for root user? If you had this is a duplicate of bug #59038.

No. I left them unchecked...

Could you please look for a host_name.err file in the data directory and print here eventual message errors you found. Thanks in advance.

I cannot find "host_name.err" in my MySQL Server 5.5 directory.

In MySQL 5.5 datadir by default is something like:

"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\data"

Please, check there.
