It is fixed in 4.1, but it is easily repeatable in 4.0: % mysql Welcome to the MySQL monitor. Commands end with ; or \g. Your MySQL connection id is 5 to server version: 4.0.14-log Type 'help;' or '\h' for help. Type '\c' to clear the buffer. mysql> select /* -- */ 1; -> This happens for me both on Mac OS X and on Red Hat.
