Description:
Upon trying to sync a model, it connects, gets the schema, but when it goes to fetch the table listing, it stops responding. It NEVER responds thereafter. I have to close (X) the window, since the "Cancel" buttons is disabled!!!!!!!!

It finally produces an error "Attempted to write to protected memory".

This has happened on a fresh install of Win7 and MySQL workbench.
Nothing out of the ordinary. You have serious problems.

How to repeat:
Install it.
Pick a model to sync. That's it.

Suggested fix:
Yeah right.

Which server version are you experiencing that problem with? is it specific to a schema or does this happen for every schema you've tried?
Thanks in advance

The version # is noted above in the bug report.

I simply reinstalled the Workbench and everything seems to work now. Apparently, it was a corrupt install.

Fixed it by reinstalling the Workbench.
