Please bear in mind that the examples shown in the article worked as shown *at the time the article was written, and the article itself speaks of MySQL 5.1 as "beta software"*. This is really all that you need to tell this customer. I think you'll find this is by no means the only DevZone article that was not future-proofed prior to publication. You should bring this up with Marketing, and tell them they need to review all of the current articles on the DevZone for lack of future-proof-ness and to vet and new ones for this before publishing them.
