Description:
Your installation program will not comoplete. See below.

I want to use MySQL to manipulate databases on my web site. The workbench program loading

and seems to work. When I click MySQL Command Line Client I get a black screen that wants

to know my password. I give it the password I fed in during setup (see below). It won't

accept the password. If my password isn't the password, what is the password? Also, during

installation, after answering all the questions, it won't complete the installation

process (see below).

How do I perform the simple task of loading MySQL so it works?

Sorry to give you so much to read. If I want an intelligent response, I have to tell you

the whole story.

Setup for MySQL Server 5.1
Here is how I answered the questions:

Setup type: Typical

I left the folder as recommended:
	Destination Folder
	C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\
	Data Folder:
	C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\MySql\MySQL Server 5.1\

And we get the MySQL Server Instance Configuration Wizard 1.0.16.0

I left the configuration at Detailed Configuration.

I left the server type at Developer Machine.

I left the database usage at Multifunctional Database.

I set the InnoDB Tablespace Settings at C:\MySql InnoDB Datafiles\
I have 48.2 GB Free Diskspace

I left the approximent number of concurent connections at Decision Support (DSS)/OLAP.

I left the networkng options at Enable TCP/IUP Networking, the port at 3306 and checked

the box of add firewall exception for this port.

I left the Enable Strict Mode box checked.

I left the default character set at Standard Character Set.

I left Windows options at Install As Windows Service, left the Service Name: at MySQL,

left the box checked for Launchthe MySQL Server Automatically and I checked the box for

Include Bin Directory in Windows PATH.

I left the box checked for Modify Security Settings. Since I have tried to install MySQL

before and erased it I have to think I do not have a current root password. So I don't

know what to write for Current Root Password and so I filled in New Root Password and its

confirmation. The next button doesn't react until I confirm the password.
IS THIS THE PASSWORD THE BLACK SCREEN IS LOOKING FOR WHEN I WANT TO RUN MYSQL?
If so it doesn't work. So where is the password?

I did not check the box to enable root access from remote machines and I did not check the

box to create an anonymous account.

Where upon it checks its progress and comes to a halt at Start Service. And, of course it

doesn't do Apply security settings.
It did make the .ini file and so I enclose it.

How to repeat:
Rerun the installation program and it never completes. Try it.

Suggested fix:
I have no idea.

Thank you for the bug report. Which exactly version? 5.1.50?. Thanks in advance.
[24 Aug 2010 0:48] Mark Hardenbergh
You want to know the complete name of the version. Here it is:
mysq-essential-5.1.50-win32.msi

Please let me know when the download can be run and reach a proper completion.

I also want to know how to interpret writing the old password which doesn't exist because I haven't been able to complete the installation process and what I should use for a new password when I haven't given an old password. Read down through my description of furnishing answers to all the questions. You will see what I mean.

Thanks for taking care of the problems. A lot of other people have had the same problems.

Thank you for taking the time to write to us, but this is not a bug. Please double-check the documentation available at http://dev.mysql.com/doc/ and the instructions on
how to report a bug at http://bugs.mysql.com/how-to-report.php

Please read at http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/tutorial.html about how to use MySQL programs. Hint: if you haven't specified password during installation just hit "Enter"
