Description:
not able to set the root password during installation process.
This issue looks to make loose time to a lot of people,
Me included....  Please do something for that issue that should not even exist in a robust application. this issue make your application really difficult to start with....

What exact version of MySQL server, 5.x.y, are you installing, and on what OS?

HAving same problem.
Configuring Instanced it must be detecting previous password, as uninstalled and attempted to re-install...I had forgotten the password....

I have removed files rebooted but still same problem.

I see this was an issue with an ealier bug

This relates to EOL (no longer supported) versions of MySQL Server. Furthermore, the old plain msi installers have been superseded by the MySQL Installer for Windows. Thus closing.
