Description:
When I enter the configuration wizard to perform the initialization, after the execution, the software goes to the 'write configuration file' stage and then hangs indefinitely.

There is nothing I have been able to do to remedy, even to uninstalling/deleting all files and trying again. Still no avail.

I checked to make sure I have write privileges in the install directory but still no getting past it.

How to repeat:
Occurs every time the wizard is executed.

Suggested fix:
Something to do with Vista 64-bit perhaps?

Thank you for the problem report. What exact version, 5.1.x, are you trying to install?

This would be the latest as downloaded yesterday.

I'd like to add a further comment which may help.

I had installed earlier but was having some difficulty getting it configured to work with my Apache/PHP (both the latest as well), so I uninstalled Mysql from my machine. It was only the 2nd time installing that the hanging appeared.

=Cheers

So, I had another go at this. I tried to remove the instance and try again using the standard (not detailed) configuration.

At the Execute step it gives a fault:\

Configuration file template c:\ ..... \my-template.ini could not be processed and written to c:\ .... my.ini. Error code -1

I couldn't repeat on Windows Vista Ultimate X86_64. Could you please describe step by step how to repeat the issue?. Thanks in advance.

OK. Download latest of all three Apache/PHP/Mysql

First thing was to install apache and do simple http://localhost test:success

Second to install PHP (manually), edit php.ini, make c:\php a system path, etc. Write and test a phpinfo(); script. test:success

Third install Mysql from .msi and immediately perform configuration. No problems here, except I worry a bit because I use some special chars in my root pass word (an underscore _ ). Installs and confires: success.

Fourth download and install phpmyadmin to test the mysql and create a database (this is the only way i know how). Receive errors from mysql can't load mysql. So I know what this is but can't exactly remember how to fix it. So I copy some php_mysql.dll files to windows, copy a libmysql.dll as well. Nothing seems to help.

Finally I begin to think that there is a problem with the Mysql installation because the phpinfo(); script still works but I can't get the mysql to show up in it. So I uninstall Mysql and download it again (pretty sure I get the same .msi). Proceed to perform configuration and this is where the 'Not responding' comes in.

There is a workaround for this issue mentioned on the forums here:

>>What version of 5.1 are you using?
>>Also, are you installing this on a machine that has previously had MySQL >>(5.1) installed?
>>Part of the problem could be related to this.
>>When you remove an instance or the MySQL program files, the datadir (which >>includes login information) remains. If this still exists, then the newly >>installed server will think that it should be using this pre-existing >>password.
>>If you remember the password, don't choose to alter the security settings on >>the initial install, but use it when logging in to the server. You can change >>the pw at your leisure after it is installed.
>>If you don't remember, delete the MySQL files from your existing datadir >>(after making copies of any data that you want to keep!).

That is, you should totally remove MySql before re-intalling - the main step here is to remove MySql folder from C:\Users\All Users folder after uninstall. That worked for me today - I had exactky the same problem with the second (3rd, 4th...) install of Mysql 5.1 on my Windows 7 64 bit.

Yes this worked, finally!

I uninstalled the program files and deleted them. Then I deleted the folder entry c:\Users\All Users\MySQL

Then I reinstalled the MySQL 5.1 program and it re-configured just fine.

Thanks.

Thank you for the feedback.

Good to know everything works after clean reinstall. Report closed as "Can't repea", because 3 of us could not repeat the problem.

I started having the same 'not responding' error after the necessary reinstallation of MySQL 5.5.

It gets stuck at the final steps of congfiguration and won't let me complete the installation. I tried the solution explained above and it helped me resolve my issue. You need to remove all of the MySQL files in C:\ProgramData\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\data (The information contained within this directory is different and probably intercept with the ones that you insert during the latest configuration). After the removal of older files pertaining to the very first configuration of the software, you can redo the installation process with success this time.
