Description:
I installed WAMP which installed 5.1.36 community MySQL version. I am trying to use Workbench 5.2.16 beta to administer the server. I added the instance through the "Manager Server Instancec" option.

I created a connection (standard TCP). Then on the system profile page, I entered Windows/Custom and pointed to the my.ini file at D:\Apps\wamp\bin\mysql\mysql5.1.36 and as instance name I have mysqld.

When trying to manage, the administration tool insists the server is not started. When I try to start it, it fails.

According to the WAMPServer tool, MySQL is simply active. I can also start SQL development and run queries. So I am sure that MySQL is indded active.

How to repeat:
Install WAMP, then install WorkBench 5.2 beta. Configure a server instance pointing to the mysql version installed by WAMP and try to manage this instance.

What Windows service name is used for this 5.1.36? Is it just MySQL or something else, like MySQL51?

Check with

net start

command or in the registry if in doubts.

The service is listed as wampmysqld all lowercase.

PS. A standard WAMPServer installation so I did not change any of the defaults it is using.

Many thanks for writing a bug report.

This is not a bug. You need to fill the correct service name at the configuration.

I uploaded an image above where you will be able to see how to configure this.
