Description:
When upgrading MySQL using the Windows .MSI, I used the Instance Configuration Wizard to change the data directory from the default to "E:\MySql\Data". After completing the wizard, this changed location was not written into my.ini. Instead, the data directory was placed in the default location ("C:\Program Files\...")

How to repeat:
1) Install a lower version of MySql (e.g. 5.0.45) using defaults. After installation, move the data folder to a non-default location. Update my.ini to refect the new location, and verify that MySql runs properly.

2) Stop MySql using the "Services" control panel, and then uninstall MySql using the "Add and Remove Programs" control panel. Rename the data directory(e.g. "OldData").

3) Install MySql 5.1.43, and then configure using the Instance Configuration Wizard. Specify the data directory to be the original non-default folder in (1).

4) When the wizard completes, inspect my.ini to determine where the data actually is located. If the bug is present, it should be in the default location, not the location chosen in (3).

Suggested fix:
Either (1) instruct users that their data location choice is not viable, or (2) allow the choice.

Where did you choose this option? Was it "InnoDB Tablespace Settings"?

Thank you for the bug report. There has been no feedback for 4 years, and we are closing this report now for the following two reasons:
* MySQL Server 5.1 is an obsolete version of MySQL Server
* For more recent MySQL Server versions, the config wizard is no longer available, and the MySQL Installer for Windows is the recommended way to install MySQL Server on Windows
