Description:
Hello,
I have been reporting a couple of times over the last few years that the restore of a large DB-backup is frequently failing. I have noticed that with many MySQL versions on a couple of windows machines.
The problem seems to be worse than ever with the actual software:
- two machines windows vista64 (8G main memory) and xp32 (4G (3G) main memory)
- server version 5.5 64bit / 32 bit
- gui tools 5.0 r16 (later versions have a critical backup table selection bug)
The problem have become so bad that I even have to restore table by table, because restoring the database a a whole is simply impossible
I can hardly restore backups which is quite unacceptable IMHO !!!
How to repeat:
Simply backup a large database with a couple of large tables each having few mln rows. The resulting sql text dump should be a few Gigabayte (> 4 I suggest).
When restoring you see that the restore does fail regulairly on unpredictable moments with a couple of different error messages (e.g. but not necessarely ^unkown object in backup file^.)
When restoring the same backup file a couple of times, it will fail on different moments and perhaps with different error messages. Some times the backup is restored as expected.
I did not notice messages in the default server log.
Suggested fix:
Please(!!) provide two fixes:
1) fix the backup engine (where ever it is)
2) fix the administrator gui tool (MUCH better for this purpose than the new workbench !!!!!!!)
Sincerely, Louis
