Please, check mydumper (see http://mituzas.lt/2009/02/03/mydumper/ and https://launchpad.net/mydumper). Maybe it will allow you to do dump of data really fast, if you have multiple CPUs/cores and are not disk bound.

Thanks for the update. But it is very important that the data integrity is also proven. Do you know if there are any parameters in my.ini to change/add to improve the performance?
