I've come across this problem as well; however, I have some additional information about the bug. I've noticed that I am presented with different versions of the "Edit" item in the Menu when I switch between items (click on a table, switch between home tab and sql editor tab) within the application compared to when I APPLE+TAB to an entirely different application and return to MySQL Workbench. By doing this, I'm sometimes able to get APPLE+A to work within the SQL Statements area when one version of the Edit Menu screen is present, but not when the other version is present.
