Maria is not fully removed from 5.4
mysql> drop table t1;
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.01 sec)

mysql> create table t1 (a int);
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.01 sec)

mysql> alter table t1 transactional=1;
Query OK, 0 rows affected, 1 warning (0.02 sec)
Records: 0  Duplicates: 0  Warnings: 0

mysql> show warnings\G
*************************** 1. row ***************************
  Level: Warning
   Code: 1478
Message: Table storage engine 'MyISAM' does not support the create option 'TRANSACTIONAL=1'
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

How to repeat:
create table t1 (a int);
alter table t1 transactional=1;
show warnings\G
