Why don't you simply ignore this error and open port 3306 (or whatever) manually in the firewall? And after that create user(s) with appropriate privileges for remotes access (using any client) it also that failed from the wizard? Probably the server is now running? You do not tell what Firewall system you are using, but the configuration wizard cannot know then all! Peter (not a MySQL person)

Thank you for the bug report. Could you please see if was printed a message error in the Windows Event Log regarding MySQL or in the err file in the data directory install. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I can not repeat anymore the error :( . Now I get "The service could not be started. Error 0" and "Could not start the service MySQL. Error 0".

Thank you for the feedback. Ok but in the Windows Event Log was printed an error message from the MySQL server why the service can't be started, use the Event Viewer and look for a MySQL error. Thanks in advance.

@ Miguel Have a look at socket '' D:\Programme\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\bin\mysqld: ready for connections. Version: '5.1.32-community' socket: '' port: 3306 MySQL Community Server (GPL) For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://www.mysql.com.

Thank you for the feedback. According your last comment regarding the socket '' I assume the server is running. The socket '' is normal because the server isn't using Unix socket.

Posted by developer: This relates to EOL (no longer supported) versions of MySQL Server. Furthermore, the old plain msi installers have been superseded by the MySQL Installer for Windows. Thus closing.
