Description:
Hello,

I have following problem, please could someone help me - many thanks in advance!

here my description:

Machine: 550 MHz pentium III
RAM: 196 MByte
OS: Windows 2000 SP4 German, latest patches

In "MySQL Server Instance configuration Wizard 1.0.15.0" it hangs at "start service" with error box

	Error adding firewall exception
	The error was:
	Ungültige Klassenzeichenfolge
	 Error Code $00800401F3
The installer must have been run with administrative privileges

I try to translate "Ungültige Klassenzeichenfolge" to english:
"Invalid class string" or "Invalid class character"

I'm running it in admin/root account

How to repeat:
Running MySQL-5.1.32-win32.msi, then after successfull installing on
"D:\Programme\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\"

the "MySQL Server Instance configuration Wizard 1.0.15.0" comes up:

	("X" means checked box)

	X Detailed Configuration

	X Developer Machine

	X Multifunctional Database

InnoDB Tablespace Settings = D: Installation Path

	X Decision Support (DSS)/OLAP

	X Enable TCP/IP Networking:
		Port 3306,
X Add firewall exception for this port

	X Enable Strict Mode

	X Best Support for Multilingualism

	X Install As Windows Service
		Service Name: MySQL
X Launch the MYSQL Server automatically

X Include Bin Directory in Window Path

	X Modify Security Settings
		Current root Password:
		New root password: XXXXXX
X Enable Root access from remote Machines

	Ready Execute...
	(Push Button Execute)

Now it hangs

Why don't you simply ignore this error and open port 3306 (or whatever) manually in the firewall? And after that create user(s) with appropriate privileges for remotes access (using any client) it also that failed from the wizard?

Probably the server is now running?

You do not tell what Firewall system you are using, but the configuration wizard cannot know then all!

@Peter Laursen

My firewall was deactivated at install time. :-]

Thank you for the bug report. Could you please see if was printed a message error in the Windows Event Log regarding MySQL or in the err file in the data directory install. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I can not repeat anymore the error :( . Now I get "The service could not be started. Error 0" and "Could not start the service MySQL. Error 0".

Thank you for the feedback. Ok but in the Windows Event Log was printed an error message from the MySQL server why the service can't be started, use the Event Viewer and look for a MySQL error. Thanks in advance.

@ Miguel

Have a look at socket ''

D:\Programme\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\bin\mysqld: ready for connections.
Version: '5.1.32-community' socket: '' port: 3306 MySQL Community Server (GPL)

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://www.mysql.com.

Thank you for the feedback. According your last comment regarding the socket '' I assume the server is running. The socket '' is normal because the server isn't using Unix socket.

This relates to EOL (no longer supported) versions of MySQL Server. Furthermore, the old plain msi installers have been superseded by the MySQL Installer for Windows. Thus closing.
