Description:
I have installed the Connector for .NET in Visual Studio 2008 with all updates applied running on Vista Business with all updates applied. 

I can connect to a MySql server fine. When I want to add a new Data source using the Data Source Wizard, I can select the Database Icon, and Click Next then I get the error: 

An Unexpected Error has Occured
Error Message: Unexpected Error.

When I remove the MySql connector from the system, the Wizard works as expected.

How to repeat:
Run the Add Data Source Wizard in Visual Studio 2008.

Hi Elliot and thanks for your report.

I have no VS2008 to test so I'll have to work with you on this.
  o Do you by any chance use *express* edition of VS? It is known limitation express can't work with plugins.
  o What is the .NET FW version you're using?
  o Can you check Add/Remove programs and .NET FW configuration for remainings of some older version of c/NET?

I am using VS 2008 Professional Edition.
The only version of the Frame Work that I have installed for Windows Forms is 3.5.

The link was nothing to do with it sorry. Any further suggestions?

Is there any update on this? I have become very fustrated with the bug as I can not continue development as I normally would.

Elliot, unfortunately, I still don't have VS2008...

Do you see at least see choices as in my attached image?

I have the same problem, Visual Studio 2008 90 day trial version on Win XP, connector 5.2.5. Strange thing is, yesterday it worked although with some problems (error message about relations not included in datasets). Today, when opening project in VS, a lot of strange errors, and mysql data sources not showing up. I uninstalled the connector, the wizard worked fine (with other dbs). Now, new install, error shows up again. This happens right after clicking on "Next" with the option "Database" selected, i.e. in the very first step, no chance to select mysql driver.

Now I have another information about this issue. I went into the Server Explorer where one of my mysql data connections was messed up (see screen shot). I deleted this connection and now the data source configuration wizard works again. I still get the "Failed to add relation(s)" error however and have not been able to find any information about it.

No feedback was provided for this bug for over a month, so it is
being suspended automatically. If you are able to provide the
information that was originally requested, please do so and change
the status of the bug back to "Open".

Don't know what to say, it just works on SP2 for me...

Guys, there is probably some problem registering to GAC/VS, possibly cause of UAC or something...
