Description:
End the uncertainty on replication compatability (feature request)

For an Enterprise RDBMS, replication from the previous stable version to the new stable version must always work. Note that the claim is 'must' rather than 'should' or 'generally'. Fear sets in when I read the sections in the MySQL manual.

There is too much uncertainty:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/replication-compatibility.html
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/replication-features.html

My favorite paragraph follows.
"If you are planning to use replication between 5.1 and a previous version of MySQL you should consult the edition of the MySQL Reference Manual corresponding to the earlier release series for information regarding the replication characteristics of that series."

How to repeat:

Suggested fix:

This should have been filed as a Docs bug, rather than Server:Replication.

Updating category and lead, setting priority as P2, and assigning to myself.
