Description:
To build MySQL 4.1 bk tree on Linux (Ubuntu AMD 64) you need automake 1.9 and aclocal 1.9.

It won't work with automake and aclocal version 1.10. This version is too new for MySQL 4.1.

I found some documentation here:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/4.1/en/installing-source-tree.html

Please, can you change here, that the version should not be higher then 1.9.

Its only for 4.1. Newer versions (5.0, 5.1, 6.0) work fine with version 1.10.

How to repeat:
Try to compile bitkeeper source from 4.1 with automake and aclocal of version 1.10.

Suggested fix:
Make a note at documentation

I'm using automake 1.10 and aclocal 1.10 on Mac OS X (Leopard) and 4.1 builds fine.

I'm using automake 1.10.1 and aclocal 1.10.1 on Gentoo Linux and 4.1 builds fine.

So "1.10 doesn't work to build 4.1" cannot be true in general. Do you have any more specific information about this problem?

Thank you for your bug report. This issue has been addressed in the documentation. The updated documentation will appear on our website shortly, and will be included in the next release of the relevant products.

I've added a note that newer automake versions may fail with 4.1 and if so, try reverting to an older version.
