Description:
Have MySQL 5.0.11 running under MS WiNXP, ODBC 5.1.1-Beta ( downloaded latest today ) and connecting to a Base file with OpenOffice.org 2.3.1

Test connection succeeds.
Attempt to open any table via DataVeiw window in OpenOffice.org Base results in crash.

Configured driver to use myodbc.sql for errors - file remains at 0 bytes.

Using ODBC 3.51.23 with same OpenOffice.org Base file, same workstation, same MySQL database - everything works as expected.

How to repeat:
Create a new OpenOffice.org Base file with version 2.3.1 that connects to a MySQL 5.0.x database on Windows XP. In the new Database wizard select type MySQL - select connector type ODBC. Select a version 5.1.1 version of the ODBC connector.

Open the database, log in to server, change to table section in Base main window, attempt to open any table.

Entered Bug report in OpenOffice.org Issue tracker - includes OO.o crash system report file.

Downloaded the 5.1.2 package and tested with OpenOffice.org 2.3.1 stable and the new 2.4 RC1 ( both under XP only ) connecting to a 5.0.45 server.

No crash - tables opened properly and so far all seems to be working.

Andrew, I have come to the same conclusion after running numerous tests but on Linux (and with UnixODBC). Of course there are many things to fix/make better but I think we can close this report now. Do you agree?

Tested on WinXP Pro SP2 too, no problems detected.
[18 Feb 2008 11:36] Andrew Jensen
Yes, I have had a chance to do some more with the connector and I would agree - please close this issue.

Andrew, thanks again fro your report and your interest in MySQL.

Closing the report now as it appears to be fixed in 5.1.2 beta.

Please attach ODBC trace log.

Jess, Georg, who is to attach trace??? Both reporter and myself are unable to repeat this problem (thus it was closed)... If anyone can repeat this behavior or suggest what is it that I can do, please suggest.

One thing I've noticed is that the person reporting the problem, in the OpenOffice.org mailing list, has installed XP Sp3 - available only since April 1st of this year. A quick read of the release notes for this service pack finds that some of the new features deal with network security - although it doesn't sound like it should interfere, I suppose anything is possible.

I'll be installing this SP later, after system backup. Who knows maybe that will make the difference - either way I'll post up here after I've finished and tried this combination again.
