Description:
I'm trying to install the 5.1.4 version of Connector/Net on VS 2005, SP1. It fails with the "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error that has been reported before. I did the install a step at a time, and it's failing when I select the "Web Provider" option. I need this for ASP.NET. I looked at machine.config, and there are no MySql lines in it. I deleted all registry entries first, even uninstalled the MySql Tools. The entry in the event log is not helpful.

I was able to install the prior version, but I could never get it to work as a provider for the SqlDataSource, and was hoping this would do it.

How to repeat:
Run an install, either with Full or Default, or specify the Core and Web Providers. It goes to the very end, then fails and rolls back.

Hi Joseph and thanks for your report. By chance I installed c/NET 5.1.4 on two machines today using full install and found no problem. Can you please try uninstall tools offered by Microsoft and try removing all occurrences of prior c/NET versions. Btw, both machines had 5.0.8.1 installed and, after uninstallation, I had to remove the 5.0.8.1 driver from Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Configuration / Assembly Cache by hand.
