Description:
Let INET_NTOA and INET_ATON handle IPv6 addresses and arrange for some convenient 16 byte data type.

How to repeat:
N/A

Thank you for a useful feature request.

I'd like to "bump" this feature-request. Still found no solution :-( Would a native INET_ATON6() or so solve the problem?

It's almost 10 years after IPv6 was introduced, and it's getting more and more popular. There's a SoC project to add IPv6 sockets support, and IMHO this bug should be addressed as well.

IPV6 support was added to MySQL v.6.0

Will MySQL 6.0 also include a 128 bit integer column for IPv6, or alternatively a special column type for IP addresses?

I want to bump the support for IPv6 data types.

Since 6.0 is no longer being developed, is IPv6 going to be supported in the 5.5 series?

This seems silently closed, it's a duplicate of this:
