Description:
In the 5.0 manual we have a note that big varchar columns are converted to TEXT, see
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/silent-column-changes.html

In the 5.1 we have the same behaviour, but it's not described at the
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/silent-column-changes.html

See also Bug #27473: "ARCHIVE: silently converts column type in 5.0/5.1"

How to repeat:
Compare
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/silent-column-changes.html
and
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/silent-column-changes.html
