Description:
Placing an object on the EER Diagram canvas changes background to black and results in multiple copies of the object. (Image to follow.) Clicking on the canvas results in a dialogue box saying:

Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

Similar to bug #32516.

How to repeat:
Reverse engineer a "live" database. Create an EER daigram and attempt to place an object on the canvas.

A note has been added to the 5.15 changelog: 

Placing an object on the canvas of an EER diagram where you have reverse engineered an existing database, would lead to multiple copies of the object appearing on the diagram.
