Hi Lynn and thanks for your report. I believe you're hitting a recent change which disallows you to have both 5.1 and 5.0 c/NET installed on the same machine. Is this the case? If so, just remove 5.0.

I have unintalled all 5.0 entries, cleaned out the GAC and the machine.config. Still a no go. I think I have a corrupted install somewhere. Any whay you can help me unroot it pointing me the right way in the registry?

Lynn Google for a pair of utilities named msiinv and msizap. msiinv will list all the products that think they are installed. msizap will kill a product given its product code.

I am working on it now. I can already see a few 5.0x installs in the msiinv.exe output. I will let you know how it goes. Thank you for the advice!
