Description:
The OS X disk image (.dmg) für 5.0.45 is defective in a subtle way - mounting the disk image is usually successful (however, smetimes it may freeze the Finder), bt any interaction with files inside the package leads to issues (for example, reading the README tends to hang TextEdit and trying to install leads to the Setup Utility getting stuck).

The image was checksummed and the ash s identical to te one provided on the download page, making a transmission error highly unlikely. Also, re-downloading the disk imge did not alleviate the problems.

An installation attempted with a 5.0.41 image acquired from one of the mirrors completed successfully.

The issues arose on a MacBook Pro runing OS X 10.4.10.

How to repeat:
1. Download the MySQL 5.0.45 OS X disk image ("package format" installation)
2. Mount the image in OS X (Finder might hang and require a force-quit here)
3. Attempt to install from the package in the disk image (Setup Utility should get stuck trying to prepare the installation)

Suggested fix:
Create a fixed the 5.0.45 disk image

Thank you for the report.

Lately I installed 5.0.45 MySQL package for Mac without any problem. Please indicate mirror you downloaded file from.

The mirror I used was most likely Germany [GWDG] (ftp.gwdg.de).

Please also check checksum to be sure file wasn't corrupted while downloading.

Like:

apple@apples-computer ~/Documents/_installers
$md5 mysql-5.0.45-osx10.4-i686.dmg
MD5 (mysql-5.0.45-osx10.4-i686.dmg) = ccb1b2221bea3a613d0ddc085ee350d3

I already did that; unfortunately that part of the message appears to have some letters missing. The checksum was computed using /sbin/md5 and was identical to the one given on the download page.

Thank you for the feedback.

I can't repeat described behaviour on Intel Mac.
