Description:
SHOW BINLOG EVENTS shows the contents of the first file in the binlog index file. I'd consider that a design flaw, because who with a reason to inspect the binlog would be interested in what happened when the server was started for the very first time? It's reasonable to expect that users would be interested in what's happened recently.

How to repeat:
Issue SHOW BINLOG EVENTS without the IN clause.

Suggested fix:
Make SHOW BINLOG EVENTS show the contents of the last file in the binlog index file.

This was brought up on Server Product Team meeting 2010-02-24.
There is not currently not enough user interest in this feature
for it to be implemented. Bug report marked as "Won't fix".

this is a feature that a user doesn't nedd often, _but_ when he needs it and it's missing, things become very annoying.

Having to dump the complete log just to be able to look at the last n events, is really annoying.

I really miss this feature, too.
