Description:
Attempting to connect to a MySQL 4.1 produces this error:

ERROR 1249: Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server. Consider upgrading MySQL client

How to repeat:
Install
Connect to a 4.1 MySQL server

Suggested fix:
Upgrade client code.
