Description:
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/create-table.html says

PASSWORD

Encrypt the .frm file with a password. This option does nothing in the standard MySQL version.

In this discussion on the Internet:
http://groups.google.com/group/mailing.database.myodbc/browse_thread/thread/6e471083e15b1f...

some person named 'Paul deBois' says

"As far as I know, this was done long ago for one specific customer and
is not generally implemented."

Maybe this Paul deBois has in between become more cetain about what a 'standard' and 'non-standard' MySQL version is. If so I'll ask him to explain. I think there is some chance that he might drop by here ...

How to repeat:
Specifying a password with CREATE/ALTER table does not prevent me in opening the .frm file in a HEX-editor

Suggested fix:
Remove this garbage!
.. because it is garbage, isn't it??

:-)

Thank you for a reasonable bug report/documentation request. If this feature is still needed for some customer and some reason, it should be documented in more details (standard vs. non-standard). Or just removed.

Thank you for your bug report. This issue has been addressed in the documentation. The updated documentation will appear on our website shortly, and will be included in the next release of the relevant products.

Revised wording:
This option is unused. If you have a need to scramble your .frm files
and make them unusable to any other MySQL server, please contact our
sales department.
