Description:
During install of 5.0.27 on my Intel Mac 10.4.8 I get "you cannot continue there is nothing to install". The manual notes this problem and says:

Due to a bug in the Mac OS X package installer, you may see this error
message in the destination disk selection dialog:

     You cannot install this software on this disk. (null)

If this error occurs, simply click the `Go Back' button once to return to the previous screen. Then click `Continue' to advance to the destination disk selection again, and you should be able to choose the destination disk correctly. We have reported this bug to Apple and it is
investigating this problem.

But I tried going back then forward but keep getting the same message.

How to repeat:
the same

It's not the Server edition it's Community

Thank you for the report.

Are you sure package is not corrupted? Please provide size of the package.

Disk Image -> mysql-standard-5.0.27-osx10.4-i686.dmg = 28,071,233 bytes
Package -> mysql-standard-5.0.27-osx10.4-i686.pkg = 28,184,297 bytes

I downloaded it twice to make sure and both times got the same message. Never installed mySQL before, though I tried once a while back and also failed.

Oh I think it might have installed itself without my knowing. I've just installed the MySQL.prefPane and that says "The MySQL Database Server is started and ready for client connections. To shut the Server down, use the "Stop MySQL Server" button. The MySQL Server Instance is running. etc.

If that means the thing is already installed, then my apologies for the bug report. I went to the Terminal and typed mysql but it said
-bash: mysql: command not found.
So I assumed mysql wasn't on the computer.

Sorry for the false alarm - the MySQL was obviously already running (5.1) I've now managed to create a database and it all seems to be working fine.

According to last comment I'll close the bug now. If it is wrong, simple reopen it.

I have the same problem. I am running OS X 10.4, and I have tried to install MySQL 5. I accidentally installed the PowerPC version, removed the folder from usr/local and trashed it, and then tried to install the correct version. It told me "You cannot continue. There is nothing to install." I then tried to install the universal binary version, and found that the terminal command "groupadd" did not exist. What is going on?

This is normally a package version problem. If the packages have the same name/CFBundleID, then the package with the lower version will not replace the newer one. Check /Library/Receipts and delete the old one
