Description:
Its would definitely be nice to have mysql server able to access/create XBase DBF format databases and CDX style indexes in addition to MYISAM/Innodb /DB database formats.

This would allow intensive cross compatibility for either non-sql direct DBF access applications and SQL enabled applications all able to communicate to a single data source.

Application such as DOS Foxpro, DBase, several accounting packages that are DBF based, this would provide a full integration avenue using SQL technology for development without having to remove the existing application.

for example one of the companies I work for uses an accounting system that based fully on XBase DBF. The application is very extensive and has thousands of man hours behind it. there is no good way to expand its functionality with intranet capabilities unless via odbc/windows solutions or using a perl XBase module to access data directly.

Just a thought.

Peter could you please comment.

We do agree that access to a variety of file formats is desirable. That is one of the reasons
that we have support for a variety of handlers for people who want to use non-MyISAM files
such as InnoDB, and of course the source code is available for those who want to make
their own handlers. However, demand for this particular file format has not been large
enough to persuade the MySQL development staff to consider handling it as an official
MySQL-supported feature.

Once there was a (contributed, non-supported) program named dbf2mysql for converting
dbf files, http://www.freshports.org/databases/dbf2mysql/ ... Can't say if anyone uses it.

This is different. The man said that is best to have a MySQL based on DBASE files, not importing them to MySQl

As anyone can see, this request is still on.
If somebody could develop it, would save lots of hours wasted.
