We do agree that access to a variety of file formats is desirable. That is one of the reasons that we have support for a variety of handlers for people who want to use non-MyISAM files such as InnoDB, and of course the source code is available for those who want to make their own handlers. However, demand for this particular file format has not been large enough to persuade the MySQL development staff to consider handling it as an official MySQL-supported feature. Once there was a (contributed, non-supported) program named dbf2mysql for converting dbf files, http://www.freshports.org/databases/dbf2mysql/ ... Can't say if anyone uses it.

This is different. The man said that is best to have a MySQL based on DBASE files, not importing them to MySQl

As anyone can see, this request is still on. If somebody could develop it, would save lots of hours wasted. http://forums.mysql.com/list.php?126

This feature request was closed because we don't want to encourage people into thinking we might do something about it.
