Description:
Connect to server at localhost failed

How to repeat:
I installed MySQL 3.23 on Suse Linux 7.3(sparc Machine). I followed exactly according to documentation provided in site. while checking the mysql version using the command mysqladmin version at bin directory. I am getting the following error.

Mysqladmin:connect to server at 'localhost' failed
Error:'cant' connect to local Mysql server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock'

I checked for the file mysql.sock but it is not there. Pl' help me how can I solve the problem.

Thanks in Advance
