ERROR: /home/mydev/testdir-4.1-axmrg-1/mysql-test/var/run/master.pid was not created in 400 seconds;  Aborting

The error log contains:

How to repeat:
BUILD/compile-pentium-debug-max
cd mysql-test
./mysql-test-run bdb-alter-table-2

The shell test program hasn't been supported for months.

The Perl version will be symlinked from "mysql-test-run" very soon.  Use ".pl" in the mean time.
