Description:
When you install the merlin agent on a linux box, the log file location line in the ini file is commented out after the install.

We also claim that "we log to syslog by default" I was unable to find anyting under /var/log on any redhat system

We must uncomment the log file location or else the agent runs without producing any agent log.
