Description:
MySql server was working fine until today. Re-booted my machine (which is behind a router) and now no apps, including command-line, ie;
>mysql -u root -p
can connect via "localhost" on my XP Pro system. How can I recover from this? Do I need to re-install?

How to repeat:
No idea how this occurred. I re-boot and the problem remains. I have never allowed outside use of this mysql system.

Suggested fix:
?? re-istall mysql ? ??

I cannot provide more information, as I have no clue as to why I cannot connect. MySql has been working properly on this machine and I was able to connect via my application (BLOG:CMS) and via the MySql Admin program, as previously stated. NOw, neither can conect. I have tried re-booting, restarting MySql and everything appears normal. No error messages until I try to connect, at which point I get error 1130. All my network connections are working properly: IE & Firefox browsers, FTP, Filezilla-FTP Server. There are no other symptoms that I can see. The last installation I did was 3DMark06, 3 days ago. My system was off overnight and when I tried MySql this morning, it failed. If there is someplace to look for clues, such as a log, please let me know.

Tried to re-configure the instance. That could not complete because it too could not connect to the server after re-configuring.

I saved my existing DB's, completely uninstalled MySql 4.1 and re-installed it from scratch. I noticed that, even though I specified the path to the datadir during installation, the ini file reverted to the installation/data folder. I had to edit my.ini to change the address, then move the mysql & test DB's to the preferred location.
