Description:
After 5.0.24 max install

[root@test~]# mysqld --basedir=/usr/local/mysql --datadir=/usr/local/mysql/data --user=mysql
mysqld: File './mysql-bin.index' not found (Errcode: 13)
060912 14:35:59 [ERROR] Aborting

060912 14:35:59 [Note] mysqld: Shutdown complete

mysqld seems to be ignoring the --datadir...

ls -l /usr/local/mysql/data

Describe what exact package you used (give URL) and what exact steps were perfomed  during installation.
