Description:
This script needs these features:

# 1. you can run a server
#      with a different uid
#      on a nonstandard port
#      in a different directory
#    while another server is running on the standard port.
# 2. give a decent error message if data dir is unwritable
# 3. take a -v argument for verbosity
# 4. take a -n argument to be verbose and not do anything

How to repeat:
try to do any of the above without the fixes ;-)

Use the attached modified file
