I experienced same behavior. Upon starting MySQL Workbench, after splash screen alerting for alpha release, screen goes totally black. Nothing seems to work (neither "ALT+TAB" sequence) and I have to reboot. Notebook Acer TravelNate 803LMi WinXP Pro 2002 SP2 MySQL Server 5.0.27 MySQL GUI Tools for 5.0-r5 (with MySQL Workbench 1.1 Alpha) MySQL Server and GUI Tools have just been installed.
