Yup. I'm seeing exactly the same thing in 5.0.22 on OS X Intel. It eats about 80% CPU and my machine gets very hot! I checked in console and It's clearly stuck in a loop running authexec saying that it's executing MySQL.prefpane/contents/Resources/mahelper

I'd like to point out that I just faced the exact same problem with the latest release (5.0.24a) on a MacBook Pro. No idea what is the cause and how to fix it though.

With filevault, the encrypted image is mounted as nosuid, which means that if you installed the prefpane in your home folder, the suid (-rwsr-sr-x) mahelper binary cannot be run.. I moved the prefpane in /Library/PreferencePanes/ and it works fine.

Thank you for the report. Please try with new version 5.0.45. I haven't seen such a problem since version 5.0.27

No feedback in a long time. Also, 5.0 is an obsolete version of MySQL Server.
