Description:
I installed the generic RPM on SuSE 10. Installed Ok and program starts OK. But cannot connect to the server, no matter if I use 'localhost' or '127.0.0.1' as host. Server is running: MySQL Adminstrator, Query Browser, third party client SQLyog and PHP connect OK.

Server is MySQL 5.0.20a (generic glibc23 RPM build).

BTW: on SuSE 10.1 RC it won't even install. Yast installer displays 'parsing complete' .. and nothing happens! But this could of course be an issue with this Linux build.

How to repeat:
se above ...

Suggested fix:
More focus/testing on recent SuSE distributions at MySQL. Version 10 is probably around 1 year old. 10.1 is just around the corner. SuSE 10 Entreprise server coming in a few months ..

hmmm ...

I wanted to verify this again .. and now it connects on SuSE 10.
I cannot tell if a reboot did it or if I could have messed up the connection details somehow ...

sorry ...

I'll check the install on 10.1 again ...

But still does not install on SuSE 10.1.

A small correction: it is SuSE 10.1 BETA 9 and not RC1 that I have.

It seems to be a general problem with installing RPM packages from MySQL (and they are not the only ones!) on SuSE 10.1. The MySQL server RPM's won't either.

I think I read that somewhere that such packages have a signature to fit SuSE 10.1. Is that the problem?

I think you can close this ...

The workbench-issue is fixed or is nonexistent. All problems with RPMs on this SuSE beta is not only MySQL. It is most! I plan to make a fresh install of SuSE 10.1 RC3 when it becomes available (in 2 weeks I guess). If I still can't install MySQL RPMs (and can install other RPMs) I'll revert back.
