Description:
Hello,

I download GA versions MySQL database - 5.0, Adminstrator - 1.1.9 and Query Browser 1.1.20 on my PC XP Pro (SP2) a personal computer. This is a shared pc with 3 users. (Keep this in mind when evaluting my problem.)

QBrowser locks up with the error at bottom -

Access violation at address 005BC7B4 in module 'MySQLQueryBrowser.exe' Read of address 00000000.

The menu at the top fails to drop anything from it's list; however I did manage to type in a SELECT command and get it to execute. Editing data in a table also worked.

I installed on another computer and QBrowser worked. I require it work on my computer.

Other steps taken to resolve this error -
 - I was wonder if multiple users login in would be causing the violation errror and re-installed everything with me the only one on logged in. - Still failed.
 - Download MD5 checksum and the downloaded apps passed.
 - The other computer used which QBrowser was successful in installing uses XP Pro (SP2)

In the documentation on the www.MySQL.com site references downloading a .ZIP file if the MSI fails to load. I could not find on this site or anywhere where I can get this ZIP file.

If I could obtain the ZIP - mysql-query-browser-version-win-noinstall.zip, then maybe this will work.

I look forward to you suggestions and comments.

How to repeat:
I run the MSI install, use all the defaults and it fails.

Run Add/remove programs.

I have not tried using REGEDIT to remove any references since the first failure.

Thank you for a problem report. Please, reinstall QB 1.1.20 as local Administrator and inform about the results.

I just installed the query browser on my 2003 sp1 server and got the exact same problem. Is there a fix?
thanks

As recommend, I uninstalled and re-installed. The only thing I did different before the install is change the root password. Not sure why that would make a difference, but it seems to work fine.

Thank you.

Please, describe the exact steps you performed to get the access violation. What version of MySQL server are you connecting to? Is it local or remote?

I have the same problem with Windows server 2003. I am running MySQL server and MySQL Query Browser from the same host. As soon as I log in, the Access violation error is displayed at the bottom of the form. I have tried removing and reloading serveral times. I have tried on two different servers. I am running MySQl 5.0.18. Can not use any menus. Can not resize the window.

At the bottom of the Query Browser Form, there is a message area. The area is divided into 3 sections. The error message is displayed in the third (from left) section. If I click on the second section, the error message goes away, and I can then use the menus and resize the window.

It is possible to get the Query Browser back into the failed state by using it.

Samme problem.
I Installed Mysqlserver from mysql-5.0.19-win32.zip on Win2k3 web edition.
Then I installed mysql-query-browser-1.1.20-win.msi on the same server.
After connecting through the browser as root to localhost the problem appears.

Then I installed the same browser on a WinXP PC, connected to MySQL on the Win2k3 server as root and again I am having the same problem

Clicking the area left of the error message works around the problem for me as well.

Another workaround is clicking in a query-edit-text.:
  http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=4329

To right click in the tree, first click the item (it only displays for a
fraction of a second before disappearing). Then click in a query-edit-text. Then right-click the item in the tree again, this should get you to the context-menu.
