Description:
(running OS 10.4.4, MySQL standard 5.0.18 (powerpc))

I have been experiencing problems with using the mysql.prefpane to start the MySQL server. Though it says that the server instance is running, I am still given the option to start the server using the button, and the icon displays that the server is not actually running. Clicking on the button does not start the server.

The automatic startup item is installed, and toggling this option in the prefpane and restarting does not change this behavior. I am running OS 10.4.4, and I had installed MySQL standard 5.0.18. The prefpane initially worked until after I installed phpmyadmin and an OpenOSX installation of Mapserver.

How to repeat:
I have also removed the prefpane and re-installed it to no avail. I have checked, and the startup item is installed in the correct location. Additionally, the hostconfig file lists the correct variable status. However, when I use the terminal command “sudo…MySQLCOM start” I get an error message stating that it cannot find the MySQL startup script.

I know that you had made updates to the prefpane in a previous bug report. I was wondering if you have a fix. I hope I didn’t leave any important information out, I am still a newbie. Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,
Eric D.

OK, I think I have it worked out. I'm so sorry I'm such a newbie. Somewhere in all my installations and trying to get different things working, I had re-installed mysql. It turns out that in /usr/local/ i had two mysql directories- one called "mysql" with little more than a "lib" directory in it, and a mysql folder with the installer name in the title that holds the rest of the files. I removed these folders, the prefpane, and the receipt files, and re-installed. All is well now with a mysql directory with the installer name in the title and and a directory "mysql" that is an alias. Again, sorry I am such a newbie.
