Description:
The MySQL query browser download page makes two X-X-X.tar.gz files available - one is source, and the other is a statically-linked binary.

The source .tar.gz should be differentiated by name, like the RPMs are. For example: mysql-query-browser-1.1.14.src.tar.gz

Alternatively, the statically linked binary could be differentiated by name.

How to repeat:
Look at http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/query-browser/1.1.html

the packages *are* different by name:

mysql-query-browser-1.1.17.tar.gz // source
mysql-query-browser-1.1.12-linux.tar.gz // linux binary
