Description:
hi
actually I installed these files:

rpm -Uvh *.rpm

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4127815 May 15 04:25 MySQL-client-standard-4.1.12-0.rhel4.i386.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 515953 May 15 04:25 MySQL-debuginfo-4.1.12-0.rhel4.i386.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2707874 May 15 04:25 MySQL-devel-standard-4.1.12-0.rhel4.i386.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9005167 May 15 04:25 MySQL-server-standard-4.1.12-0.rhel4.i386.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1188810 May 15 04:25 MySQL-shared-standard-4.1.12-0.rhel4.i386.rpm

afterwards myql is not able to start anymore :-(

mysql user is gone

mysql can't start for obvious reasons.

removing the server and installing it with rpm -ivh works - but mysql-user gets new uid and virtually anything goes nuts....

How to repeat:
install as described

Suggested fix:
fix the install/upgrade scripts

I was unable to reproduce this bug having 4.1.9 installed and upgrading to 4.1.12

hi
actually current release from redhat would be: 4.1.10a from https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2005-471.html

I'll reinstall a box today to verify this behaviour
